Moorefield Township Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1950 with the original Fire Station located adjacent to the former Township Hall in New Moorefield. As the population increased with the growth of Northridge, a second station was built at 4735 Ridgewood Road, East. These two stations continued to house the Department’s growing fleet of equipment until 2000, when a new Township Building was constructed at 1616 Moorefield Road. The Moorefield Township Fire Department is currently consolidated at this location.
Moorefield Township Fire Department is comprised of approximately forty-five men and women who serve on a pay-on-call basis. All personnel are trained firefighters with certification ranging from a basic 36 hour level up to Level II certification. More than fifty percent of the firefighters also are certified EMTs, with certification ranging from EMT-Basic up to EMT-Paramedic.
In 1993, Moorefield Township Fire Department became the first Clark County township department to institute a paid Fire and EMS program by placing paid personnel on duty at the fire station for specified hours of the day. Effective January 1, 2013 the Moorefield Township Fire Department initiated a new staffing program which provides paid fire and EMS personnel on duty at the station 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The expansion of the program to this level ensures minimum response time for ALL first runs. Second runs and fire runs requiring additional manpower continue to be staffed on a per run basis..
Moorefield Township Fire Department is proud to maintain an active presence in our community. Tours of the Fire Station are available upon request. Tours and visits often feature “Sparky,” the talking dog, who instructs children regarding the rules of fire safety.
Department members visit local schools during Fire Prevention Week each October to further educate the children of our community regarding fire safety and prevention. Fire prevention week closes each year with the annual Fish Fry, the main fundraising event of the Fire Association. Moorefield Township Fire Department also offers reflective house numbers at a cost of $15.00 per set. The numbers are available in the Township office.
